Today, newly elected PL Leader Robert
Abela will be sworn in as Malta’s new Prime Minister at the Presidential
Palace, Valletta. Abela has won 58% of the 16 216 votes cast on Saturday by PL delegates
and party members.
Moreover, Abela won almost every
ballot box opened on Saturday including the first 4th district boxes,
a district which is considered as Chris Fearne’s as in the 2017 general election
he had obtained 5405 votes. This means that in the same general election, Fearne
was the most popular candidate in the 4th district, which includes
the locations of Paola and Tarxien.
In Saturday’s election for the new
leader, 92% of eligible members cast their vote. Of these, Robert Abela
obtained 9342 votes, while Chris Fearne obtained 6798 votes. In his first
speech as Malta’s new Prime Minister and leader of the PL, Abela said that he looks
forward to working with people for the overall benefit of the country.
