A man has been arrested after more than 50 dead birds were discovered in a shop in Mosta.
The raid was carried out after the police received information about a man who was allegedly spotted taking a dead eagle to the shop in Guzeppi Callus Street.
The birds were found in a freezer at the back of the shop. They included a number of protected species.
A spokesman for The Malta Police Force told 89.7 Bay: ‘We received information about a man who was allegedly taking a protected bird – an eagle, to a shop in Mosta.
‘Following a search in the shop officers found 53 dead birds in a freezer; including eagles, storks and ducks.
‘A search was later carried out at the man’s residence where more stuffed birds were found.’
A 32-year-old man from Mosta is being questioned by the police.
The raid was carried out by officers from the Administrative Law Enforcement unit.
