Nearly 12,000 new jobs were created in Malta in the last 12 months.

New figures show Malta’s economy is booming with the number of people in work rising by nearly 6 per cent in a year.

During the same period, unemployment in Malta fell to its lowest level since before the Second World War at 122.

Figures from Jobsplus showed that around 11,000 new jobs were created in the private sector over the last 12 months.

Of these, nearly 1,500 were self-employed.

Meanwhile, the European Commission said the future of the Maltese economy looks rosy.

The EU’s economic forecast for 2020 puts Malta at number one in terms of economic growth.

Brussels said it expects Malta’s economic growth to be 4.2 per cent in 2020 and 3.8 per cent in 2021.

Bring up the rear is Italy with a predicted growth of a mere 0.4 per cent.
