Shona Zammit has become the first female Maltese footballer to join an Italian Serie A club at senior level.

The midfielder, 23, has signed a one-year deal with Pink Bari.

A Malta international since 2014, Shona has earned 44 caps for her country.

She was involved in Malta’s opening Women’s Euro 2021 qualifiers last month against Denmark and Bosnia.

Shona, who previously played for Mosta, Kirkop United and Hibernians, is the third Maltese player to join an Italian side this season.

Defender Nicole Sciberras, 18, signed a one-year deal with the Juventus youth team last month.

Malta international Martina Borg also joined Serie C side Sassari Torres.

Good luck Shona, Nicole and Martina!
