Malta welcomes record number of tourists in July

Malta’s tourism industry is on course for a record-breaking 2019, according to new figures.

The island welcomed a record number of tourists in July.

Visitor numbers were up by 5.4 per cent during the month, with arrivals from non-EU countries up nearly 10 per cent.

In total, an impressive 305,588 tourists visited the Maltese Islands in July.

More than two-thirds of them were aged under 44.

Tourists spent an estimated €285 million in July in Malta – a 1.8 per cent increase over the same month in 2018.

The figures were released by the National Statistics Office – Malta in Valletta.

January-July 2019

The number of holidaymakers coming to Malta in the first seven months of 2019 amounted to 1,512,388 – an increase of 4.2 per cent over the same period in 2018.

The Ministry of Tourism welcomed the figures and said they were confirmation that initiatives to expand air routes and the Malta Tourism Authority‘s efforts to introduce new events to attract visitors were working.
