Malta and Gozo are set to be hit by two major thunderstorms over the next 36 hours.
The Met Office in Luqa predicted rain for the Maltese Islands through the course of Tuesday and Wednesday.
Heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely for ‘much of the day’ with strong gusts of wind and even a risk of hail at times, forecasters said.
Andrea Muscat from Maltese Islands Weather warned of ‘torrential rainfall, very strong winds and hail for some time.’
He said ‘At least one of the thunderstorms could be severe. Isolated showers are possible at any time until Wednesday evening. These could be heavy and thundery at times.’
The rain could spark flash floods in some areas, including Birkirkara, Mriehel, Msida, Gzira and Xlendi.
Despite the gloomy forecast, temperatures will remain mild with highs of 29°C on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the Met Office.
The stormy weather is expected to clear by Thursday morning.
