The amount of traffic accidents was down marginally in the second quarter of 2019, but there was a major reduction in the number of injuries.
Between April and June the number of accidents reached 3,818, down 0.5% when compared to the corresponding period in 2018.
The highest road traffic casualty and road traffic accident occurred on a Thursday with 66 casualties and more than 600 accidents respectively.
The highest number of road traffic accidents was registered in Birkirkara with 312 cases. Qormi and St Paul’s Bay were next, with 215 and 178 reported accidents respectively.
The worst time was between Noon and 3pm with 22% of the total, followed by the 9.00am and noon with 812 cases.
Nevertheless, road traffic casualties declined by more than 10%.
