Beyoncé and Jay-Z are to be recognised for their achievements outside of music.

The power couple will be honoured at this year’s GLAAD Awards for accelerating LGBTQ acceptance.

GLAAD announced that the Carters will receive its Vanguard Award at its 30th annual awards ceremony on March 28 in California.

The award – previously given to Cher, Janet Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor and Antonio Banderas – honours ‘allies who have made a significant difference in promoting acceptance of LGBTQ people’.

GLAAD said Beyoncé was being recognised for speaking out about marriage equality and for including members of the LBGTQ community in her music videos.

Sarah Kate Ellis, CEO and president of GLAAD, said: ‘Beyoncé and Jay-Z are global icons and passionate defenders of human rights and acceptance for all people.

‘When Beyoncé and Jay-Z speak, the world becomes inspired and when it comes to LGBT+ people, their voices of acceptance have been heard loud and clear.’
