The Favourite has cleaned up at the 2019 Baftas, winning seven out of the 12 categories it was nominated in, including Best Actress.

Olivia Colman, 45, was honoured for her role as Queen Anne in the historical comedy, while her co-star Rachel Weisz picked up Best Supporting Actress.

Miss Colman fought back tears as she accepted her award.

She told the audience at the Royal Albert Hall in London: ‘Thanks so much, it’s really big. I do know what to say, I’ve actually written something down. To my fellow nominees, to be in the same company as you is an extraordinary honour.’

The mother-of-two has previously won Baftas for her TV roles in Broadchurch, Accused and Twenty Twelve.

The Favourite also picked up gongs for Best Original Screenplay, Costume Design and Production Design.

Despite The Favourite winning several awards including Outstanding British Film, Roma was the big winner of the night after being named Best Film.

Alfonso Cuaron’s black-and-white film about his childhood in Mexico City, was also named Best Film not in the English Language, while he was named Best Director and Cinematographer.

Best Actor went to Rami Malek, pictured below, for his powerful portrayal of the late Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.

He was congratulated by the Queen legend’s band mate Brian May who gave him a huge hug before taking to the stage.

The awards were attended by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Kate outshined many of the actresses in a sweeping, one-shoulder ivory chiffon gown by Alexander McQueen, the same design house who made her wedding dress.

She also wore a pair of dazzling pearl earrings that belonged to Princess Diana.

Prince William is the president of Bafta, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
