Mgr Joseph Galea Curmi is expected to be named Auxiliary Bishop for Malta, The Malta Independent has learnt.
The appointment will be announced officially on Saturday.
Mgr Galea Curmi was appointed vicar-general by Archbishop Charles Scicluna in 2015.
Sources told The Malta Independent that Mgr Scicluna asked for greater assistance given the workload that he has undertaken in the past months, including his two visits to Chile as papal envoy following the sexual abuse scandal that rocked the south American country.
