The X Factor is coming to Malta.
The reality TV music competition will find new singing talent to represent Malta at next year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
The contestants are expected to be aspiring singers drawn from public auditions.
There is no word yet on who the judges or the presenter might be.
Created by Simon Cowell, the show began in 2004 in the UK and has grown around the world.
A spokesman for TVM said: ‘Broadcast on TVM as from October, The X Factor Malta is set to take the Maltese entertainment industry to the next level.
‘The X Factor Malta winner will also represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019.’
However, a senior television executive warned that the show would be either a massive success or a huge failure, depending on the quality of the production.
He told 89.7 Bay: ‘This is a very ambitious project for TVM.
‘Maltese viewers are used to watching the super-slick British and American versions of the X Factor.
‘They’re both huge productions with massive teams working behind the scenes to create winning shows.
‘We all know that there are lots of talented people in Malta who can sing, but that’s not going to be enough.
‘The success of The X Factor Malta depends on so many things, including the character of the judges, the professionalism of the main presenter and of course the all-important contestants.
‘Polite judges and pleasant contestants with nothing much to say don’t make for good telly.’
TVM confirmed that the programme will launch in the first week of October.
