Some of this summer’s biggest music festivals have banned plastic straws.
It’s the latest victory for the environmental campaign to stamp out their use.
Five events in the UK will ban plastic straws this summer, including the Lovebox and Citadel Festivals in Gunnersbury Park in London in July, The Great Escape in Brighton in May, the Wychwood Festival in Cheltenham in June and the Wilderness Festival at Cornbury in Oxfordshire in August.
Organisers said they hoped the move would encourage other event organisers to follow suit.
Chief executive Rory Bett told The Evening Standard newspaper: ‘MAMA Festivals are committed to helping the anti-plastics campaign with Lovebox, Citadel, The Great Escape, Wychwood and Wilderness Festivals all being straw free.
‘Supporting the campaign is easy, just stop using plastic straws, who needs a straw anyway?’
